Ever since I was a little girl I have been drawn to pregnant women. Pregnancy, labour and birth have always fascinated me. The more I grew up I realised I wanted to know how they were feeling especially because of all the extra hormone surges the body has during pregnancy. I am passionate about you knowing what is going on, your options coping mechanisms during such a powerful yet so vulnerable time in your life.
I myself have two beautiful children and both pregnancies and labours were completely different. They varied both emotionally and physically. Having my own children was something that encouraged me to become a doula.
I am constantly doing my own personal work which I believe helps me be the best version of myself and supports my love of learning new skills.
I am a kind genuine person who would love to guide you along the journey of pregnancy, labour and birth. ❤️
Pregnant with our first baby, my partner and I felt like we were flying blind and nervous going into our daughters birth.
Finding Kayla and having her as our Doula changed everything for us.
From our first appointment we were met with an incredible amount of information and education for both my partner and I about the choices that we didn’t even know we had going into the birthing process.
Having Kayla with us for the birth as well as extra postpartum support has been incredible.
We went into the birth feeling confident, calm and so supported both mentally and physically.
When it was time to make decisions when giving birth we were able to rely on the knowledge we were given to help make those decisions without feeling pressured or forced into anything that we might have been uncomfortable with.
Kayla is so passionate about her job as a doula, I could not recommend her enough to those women and their partners who feel as if they need more support and education wether that may be physical, mental or both in the lead up to labour and birth.
Kayla did a wonderful job supporting us before and after the birth of our first child. While it was disappointing that covid restrictions meant Kayla was unable to be with us during labour and the birth, we really appreciated the support we did get from her.
We particularly appreciated Kayla’s rational guidance when I was being pressurised towards induction due to being well past my estimated due date. Thanks to Kayla’s help I was able to make the right decision, based on the information available, for my baby and I.
If we choose to have another baby, Kayla will be our first choice as a doula. Kayla is supportive, calm, fun to be around, remarkably well informed and we felt an instant connection with her, which made it easy to be open about what we were feeling
I first moved down to Canberra when I was 18 weeks pregnant with my fiancé. We had no family, friends or support network down here and as you can imagine it was absolutely daunting being pregnant with my first baby. I stumbled across Kayla only by chance and sometimes I think there was someone watching over me that day because from the second we met, I felt an instant friendship and connection. I felt safe knowing Kayla would be on this journey with us.
From our first in person meet, I knew it was the right fit. We went over so much, birth education, my preferences, my mental space going into birth and being a mother - all of it. There wasn't a time I felt even if I was scared or anxious, I couldn't reach out to Kayla to express my concerns. My whole concept of birth and the female body changed the more sessions we did leading up to the birth of my baby boy.
As expected, I went well over my due date, and although getting pressure from the medical team to be induced, I decided against it because there was no reason. If I hadn't work with Kayla, I wouldn't have known my rights as a woman and that I'm in control of my own body and can say no to anything that I don't want. When I tell people I felt empowered going into labor, I really mean it and I can only thank Kayla for that. Birth didn't go as planned, but the whole time I had my beautiful doula by my side, and it just made that day a lot easier. I felt safe, and that's all I ever wanted to feel. From the moment I went into labor to leaving the hospital with my new baby, she was there for us. (Even picking my mum up from the airport, what a legend)
Seeing the look on Kaylas face when she held my beautiful boy for the first time had my heart exploding. The love she had for my son was incredible. It's a moment we will never forget.
So, thank you, Kayla. Thank you for all your postpartum visits, your runs to the shops for me, the constant checkups and support I always received from you, but most of all your friendship. I cannot express my gratitude to you enough, how can I ever repay someone for being there on the best day of my life and making it just that easier.
